It is with profound sorrow that we write to inform you of the passing of Dr. Jay S. Burton, Founder and President of Survivor Journeys. Dr. Burton was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia in May of 2010 and underwent treatment that included chemotherapy, total body irradiation, and a stem cell transplant. In 2015, after several years in remission, Dr. Burton founded Survivor Journeys because he found a lack of social and emotional support services for cancer survivors, their caregivers, and families, both in Western Massachusetts and elsewhere.  His tireless efforts and dedication led to the development of the invaluable services and programs offered through our organization.

We want to assure you that the Board of Directors is committed to ensuring that Dr. Burton’s vision endures. To that end, we are taking appropriate steps to make sure our educational offerings and support services continue uninterrupted. We will continue with ongoing plans to launch new programs and initiatives, including the Survivor Journeys Virtual Cancer Resource Center.

Dr. Burton made a positive impact on our lives and the lives of cancer survivors and their families across the country.  As a member of the Survivor Journeys community, we are sure he made an impact on your life as well.  Everyone is welcome to participate in Dr. Burton's life celebration.  The memorial service is planned for Tuesday,  March 29, 2022 at 9:30 a.m. at Forastiere Smith Funeral Home, 220 N. Main St., East Longmeadow, MA 01028.  It is our understanding that the service will be available on zoom and recorded. More information will become available on their website

Thank you for your understanding as we continue championing cancer survivorship in Dr. Burton’s honor. We will update you as needed but please feel free to reach out to staff or Board with any questions by either email at survivorshipprogram@gmail.com or by phone at 413-276-6100.

Sincerely Yours,
